Sunday Soul ☕ | Sometimes, the change begins with us.

As we reflect on mental health awareness this October, I've been thinking about the work I've been doing on myself over the last couple of years.
One of the biggest things I'm learning is that growth isn't always about changing what's happening around us. Sometimes, it's about changing how we understand ourselves and respond to what life brings.
I've come to value therapy because it has given me space to process emotions I might otherwise have brushed aside. It's helped me recognise when fear creeps in, particularly my fear of lack. If I'm honest, financial uncertainty remains one of my biggest triggers.
I can be making progress in my marriage, growing in my work and feeling more grounded in myself, yet still worry about money.
I'm learning that both things can be true.
I can acknowledge my fear without allowing it to define my entire experience of life. In the past, fear could cripple me. Today, I'm learning to recognise it, sit with it and respond differently.
There's something else I've noticed. I don't respond to certain things the way I used to.
In my relationships with family, friends and others, I'm becoming more aware of the things I once dismissed or explained away.
Maybe they didn't mean it that way.
Perhaps I'm overthinking it.
Let me just let it go.
And my favourite: Don't be so sensitive.
I've realised how easily we can condition ourselves to believe that our feelings are the problem.
Of course, sometimes letting things go is the right thing to do. But repeatedly brushing something aside can prevent us from recognising a pattern.
So, I'm learning to be curious.
I can notice something without immediately reacting. I can pause, park it and observe. If it happens again, I give it more attention. Not every uncomfortable interaction is a pattern, and not every disappointment requires confrontation. But when something keeps repeating, perhaps it's time to stop looking away.
Awareness doesn't always require immediate action. Sometimes, it simply requires us to stop looking away.
This is also where I see the connection between my personal growth and my work through coaching.
We want healthier relationships, greater confidence, more peace and a different experience of life. Yet we sometimes find ourselves going around in circles, repeating familiar behaviours and wondering why nothing changes.
Sometimes, we know what we want to change but haven't yet understood what keeps pulling us back.
I believe therapy and coaching can complement each other beautifully. Therapy can help us process emotions and experiences, while coaching can support us in recognising patterns, challenging our thinking and practising new ways of moving forward. Sometimes, we need both.
This is part of what my Hidden Score™ framework explores: looking beyond what's visible to understand the factors influencing how we think, feel, behave and live. Because a lack of motivation or feeling stuck doesn't always call for another goal-setting exercise. Sometimes, we need to understand what's happening beneath the surface before we decide how to move forward.
I'm learning this in my own life, too. I don't have everything figured out. I'm still doing the work.
But I know this: the patterns we've practised for years may feel familiar, but they don't have to dictate our future.
So, here's my #SundaySoul reflection for you:
Is there a pattern in your life that you've become so accustomed to that you've stopped questioning it?
You don't have to figure everything out today. Start by noticing. And if you recognise that you've been going around the same circle for a long time, perhaps it's time to seek the right support.
You cannot change what you haven't yet recognised. But once you begin to recognise it, you can begin to change the trajectory.
Wishing you a Sunday filled with grace for yourself, the courage to look inward, and the wisdom to know what deserves your attention.
With love,
Keke ❤️
